Getting there is half the adventure! You’ll be driving up to the scenic & pristine Upper Pennisula of Michigan where you will leave most of the traffic behind you in the L.P. You’ll cross over from Detour Village to the island on the Drummond Islander car ferry on a short but delightful 10-15 minute ride, likely passing freighters in the Detour passage. Once on the island follow the signs to the Drummond Island Resort, a short 15-20 minute drive from exiting the Ferry. You’ll check in at the Lodge Front Desk on Maxton Rd., adjacent to the Golf Pro Shop. After that you’ll take a short 5 minute drive down resort property to the Bayside cabins on the waterfront and beautiful Potoganissing Bay, Lake Huron. Spread out on the sprawling deck at the cabin, count seagulls and swans, watch for eagles, and wait for the sun to set and the Northern lights to rise!

Drummond Island is Michigan’s outdoors-man’s paradise. The gem of the Great Lakes. Activities abound… Golfing, 4-wheeling, kayaking(complimentary), world class skeet shooting(on property), boating, fishing, waterskiing, tennis courts- on property, hiking, bird watching, wildlife sighting, bowling(on property), casual or fine dining, day trip sightseeing around the island, souvenir shopping, to name a few.

Tom Monahan, founder of Dominos Pizza, built most of this resort in the 1980s, including “The Rock” championship golf course as a corporate retreat for his family and Dominos executives. And as you will see when visiting this property, he spared no expense.

Yes the resort is “pet friendly”. Pets with well-behaved owners are welcome! But if you are bringing a small pet keep in mind that there are wolves on the island. Keep them close at hand or on a leash just in case.

Weather in Spring, Summer and Fall on the island is very nice. Even in summertime it is usually a comfortable 75-80 degrees while cooling in the evening from being water locked. Air conditioning is rarely needed. However from being located on the Great Lakes weather on the island can change very quickly.

Yes several. There is a wading beach at the resort adjacent the boathouse and marina pier. There is a beach at the Yacht Haven. And there is a very nice sand public beach on the South side of the island, about 15-20 minutes by car. Worth a day trip if you are bringing small children.

Drummond Island is not a shopping mecca. However, there are several very nice small gift shops. Check out the Pro shop on the property, The Gourmet Galley Delicatessen & Hobby Shop on Townline Rd, several small shops at 4-corners, and NorthHaven Gifts on Fairbanks Rd near the car ferry, to mention a few. These privately run shops might just surprise you with values and tastes.

No but, wireless internet is accessible to guests at the main lodge. Internet in Bayside 8 is coming. It DOES have land line phone service and Cell phone is in the area but sometimes spotty.  Cable TV full service included.

A longstanding island native and a Chicogo transplant who lives here. The D.I. resort is owned and privately managed by two Islanders who strive to keep the resort in it’s rustic and pristine atmosphere. Their concern is for your utmost satisfaction while staying here.

Since D.I. resort is a privately owned and operated resort check-in and check-out is generally at our guests convenience. Normally we expect checkout by noon if your cabin is booked for an other stay the same day but if not there is certainly flexibility.

There are two restaurants on property, PINs bowling alley restaurant, and Bayside fine dining restaurant. Both of these are excellent, in particular PINs has great food at reasonable prices. Bayside is your 5-star experience on the Bay overlooking beautiful Lake Huron. Other great restaurants in the area are available- try the Bear Track Inn for great breakfast and lunch, the Gourmet Galley for wonderful lunches and deli food, and others nearby.

After you have seen all at the D.I. Resort (and it will take some time), go to Maxton Plains down the road and on to Fossil Rocks on the N.E. shore of the island. It is an amazing geographical and natural display of our world. Then venture South to see the best beach on Drummond. Stop in at Duumond Island Yacht Haven along the way to see the largest marina on the island with luxury motor yachts and sailing vessels from the U.S.A., and Canada.
